Stevenage Borough (a), an official statement.

Official Statement

Now that the dust has settled on the events of the weekend, we feel that now is an appropriate time to pass comment on an incident that occurred towards the end of Saturday's fixture at Stevenage.

Much has been made of the fact that a small number of Luton fans invaded the pitch and then proceeded to exchange punches with Stevenage supporters so we feel as a group we ought to share the large, and rather significant, part of the story that seems to have evaded the public eye.

After Paul Benson's late red card, it became clear that a Luton supporter, who shall remain unnamed, who was watching the game from the home section (where he had stood to the offence of no one for 86 minutes) was being attacked by a middle aged group of Stevenage yobs.

Outnumbered 5 to 1, the Luton chap took a boot right to the face, whilst the stewards and the alarmingly hopeless Hertfordshire police officers on duty merely stood and watched. Seconds later, upon seeing their mate in trouble, Luton's up and coming youngsters, a who's who of faces from the inside cover of a book 15 years from now, done what any right minded individual would in that situation and went to assist their pal. At no point was anybody other than the Stevenage thugs in any danger of harm.

As more cronies attempted to get involved from sections of the home stand closer to the incident, it became apparent that those in their ill fitting Sports Direct tracksuits were no match for our sharply dressed casual connoisseurs.

The Stevenage thugs weren't given the time to do their party trick and hide behind the wall of swill before heading pack to their Bedwell hovels. Instead many took deserved blows from the brave Luton comrades of the earlier felled Hatter.

This was a flashback to a halcyon era. A bygone age, back in the 80s where a flurry of fists would resolve any liberties taken by the smaller Hertfordshire outfit (namely W*tford).

As a group we feel that the blame must be taken wholly by two groups of people. Firstly, the poorly dressed, unsophisticated, and rather embarrassing Hertfordshire slobs who instigated the battering on a lone Hatter, and the yet again appalling Hertfordshire constabulary who allowed such an incident to occur. Police ability was wholeheartedly inadequate (again) and we feel strongly that their lack of movement to quell the original perpetrators of a gang attack on the lonesome Luton chap was the major contributing factor to this incident.

We are very proud of, and will support entirely, the brave young Luton lads who rushed to the aid of their pal.

Ooh aah, Valois.
